Welcome to Booths Country
We know that these days, lots of supermarkets tell you how different they are. At Booths we really mean it. Because we are still a family company, because of our scale of operations and because of the deep, local roots we have in the communities that we serve, we honestly believe that Booths Country is a very special, very different place.
Our heritage
We are a family company, still true to the vision of our founder, Edwin Henry Booth, who in 1847 opened a shop with one aim - to sell the best available goods in attractive stores staffed with excellent assistants. This simple mantra is one of the keys to why we are different today. Because we’re a family company, we can move much more quickly to tailor our offer to exactly what our customers want.
Booths was born in Lancashire and has served Lancashire, Cheshire, Cumbria and Yorkshire for generations. Some might say that we haven’t spread our wings that widely, but what we lack in breadth, we make up for in depth. Wherever we are, we make sure that we are engaged with the community we serve, offering our customers food from down the road in a friendly, efficient and lively environment.
Our food
In the grand scheme of things, we’re a small organisation, but that means we can reach suppliers that other supermarkets ignore. In turn that means we can bring our customers some of the very best food available. Slow, properly produced, responsible food – regionally sourced 28 day matured beef, hand-baked cakes and pies, or wine from smaller vineyards – that is high quality and utterly delicious is what we are all about.
Our suppliers
Wherever possible we work with suppliers from our region. For instance, 80% of all our meat comes from the four counties we serve. Often our suppliers work for family companies too, and often we have worked together for several generations, which gives us solid relationships, a sense of continuity and good, wholesome food, produced with our customers in mind.
Even we have to admit that not all that’s good comes from the North West, but whether it’s a traditional Lancashire cheese or a leg of Parma ham, our attitude to suppliers is the same. We choose to work with speciality suppliers whose production methods are more artisanal, and often more experimental, which means our customers get some of the most exciting food and drink around.
Our specialists
Our fantastic food specialists are absolutely crucial to the experience we want our customers to have in store. Armed with serious in depth knowledge and a true passion for what they sell, they really know their onions or Grana Padano or Manx kippers. Whether you want information about different products, suggestions for recipes, cooking instructions or even encouragement to try something new, our specialists are always more than delighted to take their time and help you.
